Regional Transportation Planner II or III

The City of Cedar Rapids is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Regional Transportation Planner II or III to join our Community Development department. This position plays a key role in regional transportation planning, policy development, and project coordination to improve mobility, sustainability, and infrastructure across our region. The level of hire (II or III) will be determined based on the candidate's experience and qualifications.

About the Position
Provides professional services and assistance for a range of transportation planning, urban design, project management and related Organization services and activities. The Planner II classification is distinguished from the Planner I classification by the increased complexity and diversity of the planning developed by individuals in this classification.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
II:
Coordinates the development and implementation of long-range planning activities including transportation, land use, and others.
- Performs activities in support of multimodal transportation including:
- Trails, transit, and pedestrian planning;
- Grant research, writing, and technical support;
- Education, training, and engagement of local organizations, non-profits, and interest groups;
- Develops informational material to educate community groups to improve bicycle and pedestrian programs.
- Develops and maintains GIS-based projects for data analysis related to long-range planning,, and infrastructure investments within the MPO Planning area.
- Researches best practices and innovative strategies related to long-range planning activities and other planning principles, projects, and makes appropriate recommendations.
- Prepares reports, open house display materials and documentation related to planning projects.
- Provides information and responds to internal requests and questions from the public, staff and elected officials from member jurisdictions,, consultants, and other stakeholders.
- Analyzes and prepares recommendations for ordinance and policy amendments for consideration.
- Participates in the operation and maintenance of the Travel Demand Model including working in cooperation with the Iowa DOT Modelling staff, and other related activities.
- Researches best practices and innovative strategies for increasing quality of life and social offerings for the purposes of workforce retention and attraction within the MPO Planning region.
- Performs related work as required.
III:

- Supervises, plans, and directs the work of assigned interns.
- Performs related work as required.
Required Education and Experience
II:
- Bachelor's Degree Urban and Regional Planning, Landscape Architecture, Civil Engineering, Public Administration or related field and
- 3 to 5 years related experience in planning, urban design, or public administration or
- An equivalent combination of education and/or experience
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse population
III:
- Bachelor's Degree Urban and Regional Planning, Landscape Architecture, Civil Engineering, Public Administration or related field and
- Five to seven years related experience in planning, urban design, or public administration or
- An equivalent combination of education and/or experience
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse population
Work Schedule
Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm
Salary Range
- II: $63,544.00 - $85,800.00 annually
- III: $72,758.40 - $98,300.80 annually
