Community Development Intern
Under direct supervision of the Senior Planner & the Community Development Director, the Community Development Intern provides research and reporting, planning, GIS, and other technical support to the Community Development Department. Work assignments are introductory-level, supporting professional staff project teams.
Potential projects include housing affordability analysis, code best practice research, zoning ordinance update drafting, floodplain buyout park design, and GIS App development.
Essential Functions
- Assist the department staff with development review.
- Assists department staff with researching and writing updates to the Bettendorf Zoning Ordinance.
- Assists with staff report preparation and special planning projects including the preparation of maps & exhibits.
- Attends various meetings which may include: the Development Review Committee, Planning & Zoning Commission, Board of Adjustment, City Council, Trails Committee, and various project meetings; some meetings are held outside regular work hours.
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
- Good research skills, written, and oral communication skills.
- Ability to understand project goals and objectives, and ability to work independently towards those goals is essential to fulfilling requirements of the position.
- GIS and planning skills, including a working knowledge of ArcGIS and of land use planning principles is desirable.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Suite, Adobe Suite, or experience with the preparation of online publications or reports is desirable.
Wage and Hours: $17.24 per hour. Maximum 32 hours per week. Ideally late Spring start. Flexibility on weekly schedule and start date.
