About the Planning Internship
Under direct supervision of the Senior Planner & the Zoning Division Manager, the Planning Intern provides research and reporting, planning, GIS, and other technical support to the Planning & Zoning Division. Work assignments are introductory-level, supporting professional staff project teams.
Hourly Wage
$15 per hour
Essential Functions
- Assist the department staff with Comprehensive Plan implementation strategies
- Assists department staff with researching and writing updates to the Unified Development Code
- Assists with staff report preparation and special planning projects including the preparation of maps & exhibits
- Attends various meetings which may include: the Technical Review Committee, Planning & Zoning Commission, Board of Adjustment, Linn County Food Systems Council, Linn County Historic Preservation Commission, and various Watershed Management Authorities; some meetings are held outside regular work hours
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Good research skills, written, and oral communication skills.
- Ability to understand project goals and objectives, and ability to work independently towards those goals is essential to fulfilling requirements of the position.
- GIS and planning skills, including a working knowledge of ArcGIS and of land use planning principles is desirable.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Publisher or experience with the preparation of online publications or reports is desirable.
Shift
Minimum of 20 hours per week, maximum of 40 hours per week. Some flexibility available to accommodate a college class schedule.
