Background:
Under general supervision of the Planning and Development Manager, performs professional planning activities relating to community development, comprehensive land use planning, and code enforcement. Prepares land use plans; processes land use applications and building permits for compliance with zoning, subdivision, and other regulations; performs various inspection duties relative to the enforcement of County zoning and subdivision ordinances; provides information and technical assistance to developers and the general public on planning and zoning related matters. This work requires considerable contact with key County officials, department heads, elected officials, and as well as the Zoning Commission and Board of Adjustment.
Required Qualifications, Experience and Skills:
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in planning, engineering sciences, architecture, public administration, or a related field, and
- Two years of professional planning or zoning experience including preparation/review of planning documents or related, or
- Any equivalent combination of training/experience that will have provided the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Knowledge of the principles, practices, trends of public planning and zoning
- Knowledge and skill in interpreting and applying land use policies and comprehensive plan and zoning ordinances.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of statistical research and analysis.
- Knowledge of methods and techniques of technical report preparation and presentation.
- Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office, Adobe and ArcGIS
- Ability to use tact, diplomacy, and persuasion to resolve or mediate disputes.
- Ability to coordinate multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work under pressure.
