Regional Planner I/II - GIS Emphasis

The Siouxland Interstate Metropolitan Planning Council (SIMPCO) is looking to fill a Regional Planner position to develop and manage projects with cities and counties within the tri-state area of Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota. Under the direction of the Regional Planning Director, the Regional Planner will develop and implement goals, objectives, and priorities of the Transportation and/or Community and Economic Development Divisions of SIMPCO.
Transportation Planning activities within the SIMPCO Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) and the Siouxland Regional Transportation Planning Association (SRTPA) include technical reports and assistance, planning studies, bicycle and pedestrian planning, grant applications\administration, and any other related duties as assigned by the Regional Planning Director. This position will offer mapping support to transportation projects and upkeep of the transportation model and software.
Community and Economic Development Planning activities include comprehensive planning, zoning and subdivision ordinances, grant writing and administration, planning studies, and any other related duties as assigned by the Regional Planning Director. This position will offer mapping support to selected community and economic development projects.
The Regional Planner position requires effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present data, planning concepts and technical language in various reports and studies. Applicants must be able to provide services to the public in a courteous and effective manner. Field work, night meetings, and travel may be required for certain projects.
Knowledge of Mircosoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, and ArcGIS (ArcMap and ArcPro) is recommended. Applicant must possess strong writing, research, and computer skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other persons inside and outside of the organization.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in urban/regional planning, geography, or related field. Master’s degree preferred. Must have a valid driver’s license. SIMPCO offers remote working options after a probationary period, at the discretion of the direct supervisor.
