Planning and Development Intern

Polk County is looking for a planning intern to assist with the professional planning activities relating to community development, comprehensive land use planning, and code enforcement; including; reviewing new/existing development projects and preparing information for reports; handling community inquiries; preparing maps and graphics; reviewing zoning and subdivision ordinances and files; conducting site inspections and performing other duties as assigned.


We are looking for someone that has knowledge of the basic principles of planning, development and zoning ordinances. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Also detailed understanding of ArcGIS and proficient with spreadsheet, word processing, and presentation software.


Interested in an applicant that has any combination of training and experience equivalent to two years of college with course work in planning, landscape architecture, architecture, public administration or a related field. Strong consideration will be given to students enrolled in an urban planning program with GIS experience. 


Planning Intern position will be full time, 40 hours per week from mid-May until mid-August Wage: $12.00 per hour. Benefits are not included with the position. Please submit an email of interest and your resume to Application deadline: April 2, 2021.
