Dr. Francis Owusu is a professor and chair of the Department of Community and Regional Planning at Iowa State University. He teaches courses on globalization, international development, economic and urban planning, and research and planning methods. He worked as a planner for the State of Minnesota and has research experience in Africa and the U.S. His research in Africa focuses on globalization, development planning, urban economic development, and public sector capacity building. His U.S-focused research is directed more towards policy and has included developing sustainable development indicators, exploring the relationship between urban development and smart growth, and analyzing the location of ethanol plant in the Midwest.
